Why the ⅓ Dinner Project?

Currently, ONE third of the total amount of food produced globally never gets eaten as a result of waste in the food supply system. At the same time, over 900 million people are going hungry everyday. In response to this, the ONE THIRD Dinner Project was created to celebrate overlooked and surplus food of our food system.

The ⅓ Dinner project aims to contribute to the United Nations sustainable development goals. More specifically, we want to address target 12.3 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which calls on all nations to halve food waste by 2030. A collective response is needed to tackle this, and we hope to help achieve this by starting locally- right here in the Illawarra!

What is the 1/3 dinner project?

The ⅓ Dinner Project is a lively and hands-on cooking workshop open to all members of the community. In this workshop, over 20 kg of food that would have otherwise gone to waste will be transformed into a delicious feast, literally bringing the topic of food waste to the table. We will provide you with the the tools and forks to save yourself money, time and the environment, every time you’re in the kitchen.
